ESPN Documentary "Timeless" features Kahuku Football

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of watching ESPN's "Timeless" documentary which focused on Kahuku football. I thought the show was pretty on point in its portrayal of the school. The North Shore community produces great athletes--but more importantly graduates its students and sends many on to college which is not always the case for other public schools in the state.

ESPN2 will feature Kahuku football

Advertiser Staff

Kahuku High School's state championship football program will be the subject of ESPN2's documentary show "Timeless," at 7 p.m., Hawai'i time, tomorrow.

A crew from the all-sports cable network spent over a week on O'ahu last fall chronicling the Red Raiders' march to their fourth state title in the past six seasons. They filmed Kahuku's practices, its state semifinal victory over Wai'anae, the state championship win over Punahou and spent Thanksgiving Day at some of the players' homes.

On its Web site, ESPN describes "Timeless" as a 30-minute show that "highlight(s) towns and communities with unique sports stories all their own."

In November of 2004, a picture of Kahuku's football team performing its traditional "haka" dance and chant appeared on the cover of USA Today, along with a feature story about Hawai'i high school football.
