Cougars get 20th commitment

By Dick Harmon
Deseret Morning News
Gary Nagy, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety at Kahuku High School in Hawaii, pledged to sign with BYU over the weekend following a visit to Provo for a summer camp where he received a scholarship offer from head coach Bronco Mendenhall.
Nagy, who will be a senior this fall for the Red Raiders, is the 20th recruit to give BYU a verbal commitment to sign in February 2007. That number of commitments by July is unprecedented for the Cougar football program.
Nagy, who will serve an LDS Church mission after high school, received recruiting attention from Utah, Boise State and Washington.
A receiver last year, Nagy told the Deseret Morning News he expected to play corner and safety this coming season and made his choice of college early so he could concentrate on his senior year.
"I just wanted to get it all over with early," he said.
Nagy attended BYU's summer football camp two weeks ago.
