Portland State's Brennan Carvalho named AP DI-AA All American

Portland State football players Adam Hayward and Brennan Carvalho were each named first team Associated Press All-American for NCAA 1-AA football today. It marks the first time that two Viking players have been named to the AP All-America first team in the same season.

Carvalho, a junior offensive lineman from Kapa’a, HI, has earned his second All-American honor in a week. Carvalho was named to the Walter Camp 1-AA All- America football team last Friday.

A three-year starter for the Vikings. The 6-1, 310-pound left guard has been named first team All-Big Sky Conference the past two seasons in a row. Prior to the start of the 2006 season, Carvalho was rated as the top offensive guard in the nation and a preseason All- American by The Sports Network.

In 2006, Carvalho was a key player on the Vikings' 7-4 team. He will anchor an offensive line that returns three All-Big Sky Conference players (including Peter St. John and Daren Heerspink) in 2007.
