Shadow Ridge 32, Foothill 31 -- At Foothill, the Mustangs (1-1) prevailed when Preston Davis caught a 15-yard pass from Chris Jones with just over a minute remaining, overcoming four touchdowns by Derek Muaava of the Falcons (0-3).
Shadow Ridge went in for the winning score after taking possession at the Foothill 28 following a Falcons fumble with 2:26 to play.
Jones kept the Mustangs' drive alive by rushing for 11 yards on fourth-and-10. Two plays later, he found Davis between two defenders in the right corner of the end zone.
Foothill had a final chance after Aaron Dupin hit Tommy Silvas for 32 yards to the Shadow Ridge 48. But Dupin was intercepted by Davis four plays later.
Shadow Ridge (1-1) took a 20-0 lead by scoring three touchdowns in a 1:09 span of the first quarter. Darnell Aycock had a pair of 4-yard runs and Davis returned a fumble 16 yards for the other TD.
But the Falcons, after being held to minus-5 yards in the first quarter, scored 31 unanswered points. Silvas kicked a 40-yard field goal, while Muaava scored on runs of 4, 6, and 1 yards and recovered a fumble in the end zone.
The Mustangs rallied from a 31-20 deficit in the fourth, with Jones throwing a 40-yard TD pass to Chauncey Moore and the winner to Davis.
Jones rushed for 78 yards on 18 carries to lead the Mustangs, and threw for 145. Davis had 57 yards on the ground and 56 receiving. Foothill was led by Muaava with 67 yards on 13 carries.
