Bay Area natives winning games, making names

UCLA junior running back Kahlil Bell spent the second half of last year sidelined. He's back, and looks to be the key to the Bruins' success.

The Marin Catholic High graduate has run for more than 100 yards per game in 2007, leading the Bruins to a 4-1 record. He has four touchdowns and 522 yards.

Bell rushed for 213 yards over the first four games in 2006 before injuries and a suspension derailed his season.

Picking up where he left off, Bell gained 195 yards in the Bruins' 2007 opener at Stanford. UCLA has won every game in which Bell has carried the ball more than 12 times. He ranks third in the Pac-10 in rushing yards.

As a senior at Marin Catholic in 2004, Bell set school records for rushing yards, touchdowns, carries and yards per carry, with 2,292 yards and 31 touchdowns. He was named The Chronicle's Player of the Year.
