ALAMEDA — Looking to secure a playoff spot, it wasn't a hard choice for Alameda High to figure out who to get the ball to.
Senior receiver Niko Aumua caught six passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns Friday as the Hornets likely locked up a spot in the North Coast Section 3-A playoffs with a 20-6 Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League win over El Cerrito at Thompson Field.
"We didn't really have a game plan, just to not lose," Aumua said. "We knew with a loss we had no chance at the playoffs. If we wanted to play past 10 games, we had to execute."
Both teams exchanged fumbles on their opening possessions before Aumua got the Hornets (7-2, 4-2 ACCAL) on the board. After quarterback Wes Moyer ran 19 yards on third-and-11 to reach the Gauchos' 30-yard line, he lobbed a pass near the goal line for Aumua.
The 6-foot-5 Aumua jumped high to catch the ball, then dove for the pylon to complete a 30-yard pass play and give Alameda a 7-0 advantage.
He added a 31-yard reception in the middle of the Hornets' next drive to get them in El Cerrito territory and Moyer later found Antonio Garcia on a quick slant for a 13-yard TD pass and a 14-0 lead.
