Mountain West Conference Names Football Players of the Week

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

HARVEY UNGA, BYU
Freshman, RB, Provo, Utah/Timpview HS

Harvey Unga ran for 161 yards on 23 carries (7.0 avg.) and had a career-high four-touchdown performance in the Cougars' 48-27 victory over San Diego State on Saturday. Unga was also credited with three receptions for 29 yards to total 190 all-purpose yards in the contest. His 24 points against the Aztecs set the MWC single-game record for scoring by a freshman. The game marked Unga's third straight 100-yard rushing performance and seventh overall this season, a BYU freshman record. Unga has rushed for 1,211 yards in 2007, marking the most yards for a BYU player since Doak Walker Award-winner Luke Staley racked up 1,582 yards during the 2001 campaign. Unga's single-season rushing mark currently ranks fourth all-time in BYU history. He needs just six yards to become the Mountain West Conference's all-time leading freshman rusher.
