PROVO - Brigham Young University junior Vic So'oto scoffs when he is asked how the transition is going. "The transition happened in January," says the former tight end. "I'm a full-blown linebacker. Have been for a while now." And, he's a new person.

"People say it is like I'm born again," he said. "My attitude, everything, is better." Now, the question is: will the new So'oto be able to step in at his new position, outside linebacker, after spending his first two years in Provo on the offensive side of the ball and make people forget about the star he is replacing, New York Giants fourth-round draft choice Bryan Kehl?

"So far, it has turned out for the best," So'oto said. He believes that whole-heartedly, even if he never makes half the plays that Kehl did. The native of Carlsbad, Calif., says football is fun again, thanks to the decision he made a few weeks after BYU defeated UCLA 17-16 in the Las Vegas Bowl.

So'oto watched fellow tight ends Dennis Pitta and Andrew George combine for seven catches for 50 yards and only got in the bowl game on special teams. So, the former two-way player in high school who was recruited by most of the top college programs in the country went to the coaches and asked what he could do help the team more.
