Weber State QB Higgins impressive

OGDEN — It didn't matter whom Weber State quarterback Cameron Higgins faced or played with in team scrimmages last week.

He was on fire.

Playing without some of his top weapons in the Wildcats' final scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday morning, Higgins completed 7-of-7 passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns. He tossed a 30-yard score to senior Chris Uribe, and a 15-yard touchdown to junior Joe Collins.

"I think the tempo was good," Higgins said. "We kept the defense on their heels a lot. We converted some third and fourth downs."

It was quite a week for Higgins. In the Wildcats' second scrimmage of fall camp on Wednesday afternoon, he completed 12-of-13 passes for 117 yards and three touchdowns. That came after Weber State's defense started a little faster than the offense in fall camp, and got the better of the opposing unit in the team's first scrimmage on Aug. 9.

"Higgins is obviously doing a good job," said coach Ron McBride.

Higgins certainly isn't doing anything to temper the high expectations Weber State fans have for their team this season. He seems to be getting better by the day while taking advantage of his first fall camp as the team's starting quarterback.
