Del Sol quarterback gets a second look

Before his senior year, Saei Huihui was known more for his lanky 6-foot-4 frame and sports goggles than his play on Del Sol's football team.

With older brother Pono Huihui, a former All-Sunrise Region offensive lineman, it was tough to stand out.

"No one really noticed me until this year," said Saei Huihui, now the Dragons' starting quarterback.

Saei Huihui is getting plenty of looks this season, and not just for the sports goggles he still prefers to contacts.

Huihui has thrown for 342 yards and four touchdowns in his first four starts to help Del Sol open the season with three wins in four games.

The Dragons offense, known for its strong running game, has had an increased passing attack with Huihui at the helm.

Huihui's potential was most evident in his first start when he passed for 126 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a score in a victory against Valley.

"He didn't have the position locked up in the spring, but he brought the most tools by being a tall kid with a strong arm," Del Sol coach Preston Goroff said. "He's very athletic — probably the most athletic quarterback in town."
