"It's close to home — having my family close by had a lot to do with it," the 6-foot-1, 210-pound Fanua said. "Ever since I visited Cal it's been in my head and my heart to go to school there."
Brigham Young, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Fresno State and UNLV were among the schools pursuing Fanua, who had 131 tackles and four sacks to help Milpitas earn a share of the De Anza Division title.
"I'm going to come out and work as hard as I can to earn a starting position as a freshman," Fanua said.
Fanua has been a joy to coach, Kelly King said.
"He has leadership and wisdom beyond his years,'' King said. "It's like having a second coach on the field with him out there."
