Elite Eleven: A look at the top players returning to action in The Valley

David Tavita

Paloma Valley, running back

Class: Senior

Height, weight: 6-foot-2, 225 pounds

The lowdown: Pac-10 schools are already looking Tavita's way. He runs a 4.4-second 40-yard dash and he benched 185 pounds 30 times at a recent combine. Scouts like him as a linebacker, but Tavita was a beast as a running back last year. He missed out on a 1,000-yard season, but averaged nearly six yards a carry and totaled 13 touchdowns.

From Chaparral coach Tom Leach: "We really feared him last year. He's got size and speed and runs with an attitude. He's definitely a Division I football player."
