Associated Press selects Iupati to first team

University of Idaho senior guard Mike Iupati pulled in three more first-team All-American honors with the announcement of the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated and CBS teams.

Already a consensus All-American as a member of the Walter Camp, Football Writers Association of America and American Football Coaches Association teams, he was just one team shy of being honored as a unanimous consensus All-American when he was listed on The Sporting News second team. He also was an Outland Trophy finalist.

Iupati, a native of American Samoa and a graduate of Western (Anaheim, Calif.) High School, is one of the most highly honored Vandals in school history and the most honored as an FBS team.

His remarkable senior season was one during which he did not allow a single quarterback sack in 807 snaps and only five quarterback hurries. He accounted for 49 knockdowns and 21 pancakes. He is part of an offensive unit that heads to the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl with the nation's 10th-ranked total offense and the 11th-best passing attack.
