Inoke Breckterfield to coach at Portland State

Inoke Breckterfield joins Portland State after spending one season as the defensive line coach at Weber State University. Breckterfield will coach the defensive line for PSU.

"Inoke is a legend at Oregon State who, once again, loves this area and the state of Oregon. He helped guide a team at Weber State to where we want to go, the NCAA FCS playoffs. He brings a level of passion and intensity and recruiting prowess that we definitely need on this staff," said Burton.

A graduate of Oregon State University, Breckterfield played for the Beavers earning All-Pac-10 honors in 1998. He was a volunteer coach at OSU in 2006 and a graduate assistant coach in 2007-08.

Breckterfield was an outstanding high school player at Damien High in Honolulu, Hawai’i. He signed to play at Oregon State under Coach Mike Riley’s first tenure at OSU. In 1998, Breckterfield was named first team All-Pac-10 and third team All-American. He was also selected as the outstanding lineman in the Hula Bowl All-Star game.

At Oregon State, Breckterfield was the recipient of the prestigious Morris Trophy which is awarded annually to the top interior lineman in the Pac-10. He left OSU as the school’s career leader in tackles for loss with 55.5 and in quarterback sacks with 19.5 and currently ranks second in both categories at Oregon State.

Breckterfield played two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts and three seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League before returning to OSU to complete his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies.

He and his wife, Carol, are the parents of an eight-year old son, Kalevi.
