Prep football: Bingham football player wins Gatorade award

Harvey Langi is the first Bingham High player ever chosen to win the Gatorade Utah Football Player of the Year award. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound junior back was recognized for his on-field accomplishments as well as his work in the classroom.

Langi rushed for 1,514 yards and 21 touchdowns as the Miners won the 5A state championship. He gained 118 yards and scored once in the 35-24 title game victory against Davis.

Langi also has a 3.82 grade-point average and serves as president of the school's minority leadership chapter. He now becomes a finalist for the national award, which has included past winners Mark Sanchez, Wes Welker and Jerome Bettis.
