Section Sports: All Southern Section

First Team

John Hardy, Vista Murrieta Sr.

Hofmeister did the dirty work for the Broncos defense; Hardy made the plays. His 9 interceptions made Hardy a big-time playmaker for Vista Murrieta.

DT David Maola, Serra Jr.

Maola was the best defensive lineman for a great Serra defense, Maola was perhaps the most disruptive interior lineman in California. The 6-foot-1, 280 pound Maola recorded 11 sacks in 2009.

OL Roman Sapolu, Edison Sr.

Offensive linemen never get enough credit for their team's successes. The Chargers are undefeated, and Sapolu's leadership in the middle of the offensive line is a big reason why.

DT Kirifi Taula, Servite Sr.

Taula is the biggest reason (literally- he's 285 pounds) the Friars' defense is stout against the run.

Second Team

DT Justin Utupo, Lakewood Sr.

The Notre Dame-bound Utupo put his physical gifts on full display in the biggest games this season, as his 4 sacks in the second round of the Pac-5 playoffs were a big reason why the Lancers got as far as they did.
