Former University of Hawai'i football standouts Chad Owens, David Maeva and Nate Ilaoa will be among the instructors at a series of youth and high school camps on three Neighbor Islands next month.
The first Chad Owens All-Star Football Camp will take place Saturday at Hilo High School. Registration for Pop Warner players (ages 8 through 14) is from 8 to 9 a.m., with the camp itself running from 9 a.m. to noon.
Registration for high school players (ages 15 to 18) is from noon to 1 p.m., with the camp running from 1 to 4 p.m.
The cost is $40 per player.
The coaching staff includes Owens — a former second-team All-America return specialist/receiver for Hawai'i — and other former UH standouts Maeva (linebackers), Ilaoa (running backs), Eddie Klaneski (defensive backs) and Jeremy Inferrera (offensive line).
Former Linfield All-American Jody Tyrell will coach the defensive linemen.
The camp will move to Kaua'i's Kapa'a New Town Park for players ages 7 through 15 on May 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Preregistration has begun and will take place again Friday at Kukui Grove Center's exhibition area, near Deja Vu store. On-site registration also will take place from 8 to 9 a.m. on May 8.
The cost for Kauai'i's all-day camp is $100.
The camp then moves to Maui High School in Kahului on May 15, with the same schedule, ages and fee as the Hilo camp.
Mililani High School coach Darnell Arceneaux — a former standout at Saint Louis and the University of Utah — will coach the quarterbacks at the Hilo and Maui camps.
