Stanley Hasiak's career at UCLA took another negative turn Thursday, when the 6-foot-5 offensive guard was deemed academically ineligible for the upcoming football season. The rising sophomore will have three seasons of eligibility left and is likely to redshirt this year.
"This is an unfortunate situation for Stanley," coach Rick Neuheisel said in a statement. "I expect Stanley to work hard to ensure this situation does not occur again. We expect him to help us on the scout team this year and work himself into a contributor for 2011."
Citing "personal reasons," Hasiak returned home to Kapolei, Hawaii, before UCLA's EagleBank Bowl win last December. He had taken a similar break six weeks prior.
Neuheisel reinstated Hasiak, one of the top offensive linemen in the 2009 class, in March. Hasiak played in three games last season after losing out on the starting left guard battle during fall camp.
