DENVER - Louisiana Tech quarterback Ross Jenkins, Hawai'i linebacker Corey Paredes and Boise State punt returner Chris Potter were named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Paredes, a junior from Kane'ohe, O'ahu (Castle HS), led the team with nine tackles (6 solo) and forced two fumbles in the 27-21 win over No. 19 Nevada. His first forced fumble came early in the first quarter and led to Hawai'i's first touchdown of the game. On the second, Paredes stopped Nevada from scoring a touchdown in the third quarter by stripping quarterback Colin Kaepernick of the ball just before he crossed the goal line. The Hawai'i defense held Nevada to 134 rushing yards, 180 below their season average.
