University of Hawaii slotback Kealoha Pilares, who set a UH receptions record Saturday against Louisiana Tech, was named Western Athletic Conference offensive player of the week today.
Pilares had a single-game record 18 catches, totalling 217 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-21 victory over LaTech in the WAC opener for both teams.
He broke the previous record of 16 set by fellow slotback Greg Salas, who had 10 catches for 197 yards against LaTech.
Pilares also became the first receiver to break the 200-yard barrier since Jason Rivers had 306 yards against Arizona State in the Hawaii Bowl in 2006.
