Pritchard follows family path to Cougs

Tana Pritchard didn’t need long to consider the offer.
Twenty-four hours after Washington State assistant coach Mike Levenseller proffered the Clover Park senior a scholarship, Pritchard orally committed to the Cougars.
“I grew up rooting for the Cougars, it would have been too hard for me to turn this offer down,” Pritchard told Cougfan.com. “It was a lot easier decision than it was hard.”
Pritchard, who committed on Friday, will follow in the footsteps of his father and uncle, who both played for the Cougars. His father, David, was a center on the 1981 Holiday Bowl team, and his uncle, Jack Thompson, was a quarterback (1975-78).
Though Pritchard will attend the alma mater of his father and uncle, he’ll play on the other side of the ball. Pritchard, a four-year starter at quarterback and safety at Clover Park, projects to be an outside linebacker for the Cougars.
Friday turned out to be an exciting day for Pritchard. First, he committed to Washington State, then he helped the Warriors engineer a 41-34 upset of eighth-ranked Sumner. Pritchard completed 14 of 24 passes for 144 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
Pritchard’s older brother Tavita played quarterback at Stanford University. Tana is the second South Sound recruit to orally commit to the Cougars’ 2011 class, joining Curtis’ Max Hersey.
