Brennan LB: 5-11, 190, jr. — While blue-chipper Derick Roberson draws
more attention, Watanabe has grown into quite the playmaker himself. He
tallied 92 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and three interceptions, and
returned a blocked punt for a TD as a sophomore.
Brennan coach Steve Basore expects even bigger numbers in 2012 as Watanabe switches to middle linebacker.
"He can just make more plays from there," Basore said. "I feel he'll have a real breakout year."
Watanabe has good football genes. His older brother Ethan signed with
Hawaii this year (the first FBS signee in Brennan history), and younger
brother Mitchell is a 6-foot-1, 315-pound sophomore lineman.
