Week 8 NFL Polynesian Football Player Matchups and Notes

Cincinnati at Baltimore
1st round draft pick Haloti Ngata starts at Right Defensive Tackle for Ray Lewis led Ravens defense. Ngata has 20 tackles for the season and a 60 yard interception. Offensive lineman Ed Mulitalo is currently on IR for the Ravens and Chris Pino is on the practice squad. Rookie Defensive Tackle Domata Peko is second team DT for the Bengals and has 19 tackles and 0.5 sacks for the season. Fullback Fahu Tahi is on the practice squad for the Bengals and Defensive End Jonathan Fanene is on the physically unable to perform list.

Miami at Chicago
The Bears are led by team captain and All Pro Center Olin Kreutz. Kreutz a St Louis HS (Honolulu, HI) earlier this week inked a 3 year contract extension. Leone HS (Amerika Samoa) Gabe Reid is a 3rd string TE.

Atlanta at Detroit
Dominic Raiola starts at Center and Blaine Saipaia starts alongside Raiola at Right Guard.

Houston at New York Jets
Anthony Weaver starts at Left Defensive End. Weaver has 20 tackles for the season and 1 sack. The Jets start Kimo von Oelhoffen at Right Defensive Tackle. Von Oelhoffen has 17 tackles for the season. Texans Linebacker Kailee Wong was recently activated from IR and has seen limited playing time. Jets’ Defensive Lineman Tui Alailefaleula (Bartlett HS, Anchorage, AK / University of Washington) and Sione Po’uha (East HS, Salt Lake City, UT / Utah) are currently on injured reserve.

Tennessee at Jacksonville
The Jaguars released return specialist Chad Owens today. Owens had started the season as their punt returner but in recent weeks was on the inactive list. The Jaguars start Chris Naeole at Right Guard and Vince Manuwai at Left Guard. Former USC coach and current Running Backs coach Kennedy Pola works with his boys Manuwai and Naeole up front. 13 year pro Kevin Mawae starts up front for the Titans. Travis Laboy starts at Right Defensive End and Jesse Mahelona is 2nd string RDT. Laboy has 18 tackles for the season and 2 sacks and Mahelona has 11 tackles and a sack. Wayne Hunter is also on the Jacksonville Jags practice squad.

Kansas City at St Louis
Team captain Pisa Tinoisamoa is listed to as questionable to start at weakside linebacker after missing last week’s game due to a dislocated elbow. Kawika Mitchell starts at middle linebacker for the Chiefs. Mitchell is second on the team with 42 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Tinoisamoa has 23 tackles, 2 sacks, and a fumble recovery in 6 games played this season.

Indianapolis at New England
Junior Seau starts at Inside Linebacker and has 41tackels for the season. Rookie Freddie Keiaho is a back up linebacker for the Colts.

Oakland at Seattle
Backup quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo returns home to Seattle to face the Seahawks. Pro Bowl linebacker Lofa Tatupu leads the Hawks with 54 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. This is the first time that the second generation Samoan football players Tuiasosopo and Tatupu will face each other. Itula Mili is a backup tight end for Seattle.

Denver at Pittsburgh
Troy Polamalu hopes to get the Steelers back in the W column. Polamalu leads the team with 46 tackles and 3 interceptions. Polamalu is listed as probably with a foot injury. Chris Kemoeatu (2nd string right guard) is listed as probable with an ankle injury. Rookie Marvin Philip is currently 3rd string center. Tafuna HS (Amerika Samoa) graduate Shaun Nua is on the Steelers practice squad.

Cleveland at San Diego
The Browns recently signed Fred Matua who had been on the Titans practice squad and drafted earlier this year by the Lions. Matua is the back up right guard. Brandon Manumaleuna is All Pro Tight End Antonio Gates back up. Manumaleuna has 9 receptions for the season and 1 TD reception.

Minnesota at San Francisco
Isa’ako Sopoaga missed the 49ers game last week versus the Bears—lucky for him. Sopoaga is no longer on the Niners depth chart after missing last week’s game.

Dallas at Washington
Joe Salave’a starts at right defensive tackle and Mike Sellers is the starting fullback for the Redskins. In addition, Vaka Manupuna is on the IR for the Redskins.
