The Mountain West Conference recently selected their all conference teams which included Utah's Tavo Tupola (Kahuku HS, HI) and BYU's Jake Kuresa (Mountain Crest HS, Milville, UT), both lineman to the first team and Utah's Kelly Talavou (Fountain Valley HS, CA/Idaho) was a first team selection at Defensive Line. Left tackle Tavo Tupola has started since his freshman year and was a second team all conference selection last season. Jake Kuresa was a second team selection last season. Kuresa played guard and center this season and was an offensive captain and credited with 96 knock-downs this season. Kelly Talavou finished the season with 44 tackles (24 solo), 7.5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks.
Paul Soliai was a second team selection in his first season at nose guard following the move from offensive tackles last season. Paul Soliai came to Utah via Coffeyville CC (KS) and Nu'u'uli Poly-Tech (American Samoa), finished the regular season with 35 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 4 pass breakups. Sete Aulai (Carson HS, CA) a junior college transfer from El Camino CC (Torrance, CA) at center was a second team selection. Aulai allowed just one sack this season and was credited with 108 knock-downs for the season.
UNLV senior nose guard Howie Fuimaono was selected honorable mention for the second season in a row. Fuimaono finished the season 27 tackles (10 solo) , 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
Kuresa, Aulai and his BYU teammates will meet Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 21st. Tupola, Talavou, Soliai and his Utah team will play Tulsa in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, TX on December 23rd.
