Week 1 College Football Polynesian Recap

BYU 20, Arizona 7
Redshirt freshman running back Harvy Unga led BYU in rushing with 68 yards on 15 carries and receiving with 127 yards on nine receptions. Unga also had two touchdowns, one through the air (27 yards) and one on the ground (11 yards). Arizona quarterback Willie Tuitama was 26-36 for 216 yards and 1 touchdown in the loss.

Navy 30, Temple 19
Starting option quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada scored on a 44 yard TD for the second score of the day. Kaheaku-Enhada finished with 102 yards on 15 rushes and passed for 78 yards on 7 attempts. Other Polynesians on the Midshipmen squad included starting guard Ben Gabbard, back up center Reyn Kaupiko, and reserve defensive lineman Penetekoso Peau.

Colorado 31, Colorado State 28 OT
Waimea High Graduate (Kaua'i, HI) Jordan Dizon had 20 tackles, 15 solo in helping the Buffaloes defeat in state rival Colorado State. Punahou's (Honolulu) RJ Brown starting in place of suspended Michael Sipili finished with 10 tackles, including 5 solo.

Hawai'i 63, Northern Colorado 6
Running back Kealoha Pilares scored on a 15 yard pass from Colt Brennan, the first of nine touchdowns, finishing with 7 receptions for 64 yards. Senior wide receiver Jason Rivers scored the second TD of the game with a 30 yard pass from Brennan. Rivers had 5 receptions for 101 yards. Linebackers Brad Kalilimoku and Timo Paepule 10 tackles (8 solo) and 7 tackles (7 solo) each in the run away victory.

Oregon State 24, Utah 7
Kahuku graduate Al Afalava had 10 tackles (8 solo) including a sack and 3 pass breakups from the free safety position in the victory over Utah. Utah starting running back Matt Asiata was lost for the season with a broken leg.

Nebraska 52, Nevada 10
Starting linebacker Joshua Mauga had 13 tackles (5 solo) including 1.5 tackles for loss in Nevada's defeat at Lincoln.

New Mexico State 35, Southeast Louisiana 14
Linebacker La'auli Fonoti had 7 tackles (2 solo) including 2 tackles for loss in the Aggies victory.

UNLV 23, Utah State 16
Rebel linebacker Starr Fuimaono had 6 tackles (5 solo) including 2 for losses and 1 sack. Starting defensive tackle Malo Taumua also had 5 tackles, including 1 for loss in the victory over Utah State.

Oregon 48 , Houston 27
Oregon Linebacker AJ Tuitele finished the game with 8 tackles (6 solo) and defensive tackles David Faaeteete had 4 solo tackles, including 3 for loss. Houston was led by senior linebacker Brendan Pahulu who finished with 5 tackles including a sack for minus 13 yards in a loss at Eugene.

Texas A&M 38, Montana State 7
Starting linebacker Misi Tupe finished with 6 tackles total (1 solo) in the win over Montana State.

Michigan State 55, UAB 18
Junior College transfer Jacob Tauanu'u has emerged as a the starting strongside linebacker and finished with 5 tackles (4 solo) in a loss East Lansing, Michigan.

UTEP 10, New Mexico 6
Defensive tackle Ja-Boy Leomiti and MIKE Linebacker Nu'uese Punimata each had 4 assists in a win at home versus the Lobos.
