Statesman Journal: All Area

The Statesman Journal (Oregon) has named Andrew Seumalo and Kekai Walker to its All Area Football Team

Andrew Seumalo

SCHOOL: Santiam Christian

YEAR: Senior

POSITION: Defensive end

HONORS: First-team all-PacWest Conference defensive line and tight end, PacWest Conference lineman of the year.

HEIGHT, WEIGHT: 6-4, 225.

STATISTICS: Seumalo recorded 60 tackles, including 10 sacks, forced three fumbles and blocked eight passes. He also caught four touchdown passes.

COACH'S ASSESSMENT: "He built a reputation up from last year," Santiam Christian coach Steve Woods said. "More teams game-planned away from him. From that perspective, he probably didn't have as many opportunities to show what he could do. He slimmed down a little bit, and he was probably a little quicker this year. Right now what he's thinking is walking on at Oregon State. That's his initial plan. Other colleges have offered him opportunities to play there. He wants to play there for his dad (Beavers defensive line coach Joe Seumalo)."

Kekai Walker

SCHOOL: West Salem

YEAR: Senior

POSITION: Offensive guard

HONORS: First-team all-CVC offensive guard, honorable mention all-CVC defensive line.

HEIGHT, WEIGHT: 5-10, 175

COACH'S ASSESSMENT: "You got to obviously be tougher than hell to do what he did," West Salem coach Shawn Stanley said. "He's the kind of guy, people ask me how big is he and I say he's big enough. The kind of guy I think high school football's all about. I'd line up with five of him any day and play."
