Maiava's decision to leave a family one

he father of Colorado football player Kai Maiava said Wednesday night that the decision by his son to leave CU was a "family" choice, and that it had little to do with football.

Scott Mahoney, who also played football at Colorado, said from his Hawaii home on Wednesday, "There are more important things than football. The decision was based on him needing to be closer to home, closer to family, for a lot of reasons."

Maiava started the final nine games of the season for the Buffs last year as a true freshman at offensive guard. But during the offseason, CU's coaching staff asked him to consider a switch to fullback, and he agreed to the move.
