Former Kahuku Standout and Oregon State Safety, Al Afalava, Impresses NFL Scouts

Former Kahuku Football Standout and Oregon State University Safety, Al Afalava, Impresses NFL Scouts at Pro Day Workout

Afalava scheduled to visit with 3 NFL Teams for personal interviews

Scottsdale, Arizona (March 28, 2009) - Ikei Performance, Scottsdale’s exclusive sports performance and fitness training center is proud to announce that former Kahuku Red Raider Football Standout, Al Afalava impressed NFL Scouts at Oregon State University NFL Pro Day Workout on March 14, 2009 in Corvallis, OR.

The 5’11” Afalava weighed in at 207 pounds and reported official times of 4.47 seconds forty yard dash, 40” vertical jump, 10’5” broad jump, 4.07 seconds 20-yard shuttle, 6.63 seconds 3-cone drill, 11.05 seconds 60-yard shuttle and 25 reps in the 225# bench press test.

“I felt confident coming into my pro day,” states Afalava, who trained at Ikei Performance in Scottsdale, Arizona. “I’ve never experienced anything like this my whole career in football. I mean, I’ve always trained hard and pushed myself but here the workouts were intense and the environment was exactly what you want when trying to get to that next level. We trained 2-3 times a day, 6 days a week. We would run or do some kind of speed & agility drills, then we would lift weights and then we would run again. Ikei (Chad Ikei) had everything planned out from what time to wake-up, what times to eat, what to eat, how much we needed to eat, what supplements to take, when to get massages, chiropractic treatment, soft-tissue treatments, saunas and even hooked us up to IV’s. So by the time my pro day came around my body felt ready and mentally I knew I would perform well.”

According to Afalava’s Sports Performance Coach, Chad Ikei, “Al’s impressive numbers would have placed him amongst the top 3 performers at the NFL Combine.” Although Afalava participated in the East-West Shrine Game for College All-stars he was overlooked being invited to the NFL Combine. “I’ve been training NFL prospects for the past 6 years now many of whom participated in the combine, but Al is definitely one of my most talented individuals. In fact, all the guys here nicked named him the Hawaiian Supa-man. He’s by far one of the fastest Poly kids I’ve worked with and most definitely one of the leanest” chuckles Ikei as Afalava measured in at a lean 4.67% body fat.

Afalava who was projected to go undrafted as a priority free agent has now sparked interest from several NFL Teams. “I think Al really made a name for himself after his performance. We knew what he could do and what type of player he is but sometimes players get overlooked. His numbers at his pro day workout seemed to have impressed some scouts and shows that he is a player to consider and we’re hoping that a team will select him earlier than what was anticipated.” States Afalava’s agent, Max Hannemann. Three NFL Teams have already arranged to fly Afalava to meet with their organizations for private interviews: Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts.

The sacrifice, dedication and hard work that Afalava made will hopefully be rewarded come the NFL Draft scheduled for April 25-26.
