Masoli on Manning Award Watch List

Monday, August 17, 12:00 p.m. PT

Chalk up another watch list spot for an Oregon Duck, more specifically junior Jeremiah Masoli. Oregon's projected starting signal-caller is officially one of 38 top quarterbacks under consideration for the 2009-10 Manning Award sponsored by the All State Sugar Bowl. The winner will be announced after the bowl season in January and will be honored at a February banquet in New Orleans.

Masoli, who capped an impressive first year at UO by leading the Ducks to four consecutive wins and picking up Holiday Bowl offensive MVP honors, is also on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which honors the nation's outstanding collegiate football player.

The fifth annual award, in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning, is the only quarterback accolade that takes into account the candidates' bowl performances.

Masoli and Washington junior Jake Locker are the only Pac-10 representatives currently on the watch list.
