Sharks’ coach Pepine Lauvao will coach American Samoa All Stars

American Samoa High School Athletics Association (ASHSAA) Coach of The Year Sharks’ Varsity Head Coach Pepine Lauvao will coach this year’s All Stars who will play squads from Hawaii and Australia in the two-day Samoa Bowl VII, set for Jan. 1-2, 2010.

Twenty-two standout players have made the All Stars’ first and second teams.

Samoa News understands that each player who was honored with an ASHSAA award during the closing ceremony of the 2009-2010 season, Nov. 28, has made the list.

Awardees received trophies during the awards ceremony held after the championship game in which the Sharks beat the Warriors 7-6 at the Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Standout players were selected by seven voters, head coaches of all the high school football teams that participated in this years season, as well as one ASHSAA member.

The awards are as follows:

—Coach of The Year: Samoana High School Head Coach Pepine Lauvao

—MVP of the Year: Sharks starting quarterback Tavita Neemia

—Offensive MVP of the Year : Fagaitua Vikings quarterback Ieti Ieti

—Defensive MVP of the Year: Tafuna Warriors middle linebacker Tavita Faagu

—Co-offensive Back of the Year: Sharks’ Siona Eliu and Vikings’ Arona Tuiafono

—Co-offensive lineman of the Year: Warriors’ Ailua Fanene and Sharks’ Filei Tauave

—Defensive Back of the Year: Sharks’ Erupi Autele

—Defensive Lineman of the Year: Vikings’ Ropatiu Lefauaitu.

—Co-Receiver of the Season: Lions’ Lawrence Danielson and Sharks’ Tanielu Matautia

—Co-Linebacker of the Season: Warriors’ Peni Imo and Sharks’ Eroni Foifua

—Special Teams: Lions’ So’o Enele

—All Purpose Player of the Year: Warriors’ Iolamo Fonoti.
