Portland State football coach Nigel Burton on Monday named Legi Suiaunoa as the Vikings new defensive line coach, replacing Inoke Breckterfield, who left for a similar position at Montana.

Suiaunoa, 31, worked last season as the defensive coordinator at Eastern Oregon where he ran the same 4-3 defense that Burton plans to run with the Vikings. He previously spent four seasons as the defensive line coach at Western Washington, and also was a graduate assistant at Nevada.

A former linebacker from Oceanside, Calif., Suiaunoa won a junior college national championship playing as a freshman at Palomar Junior College in 1997. He then transferred to Nevada where he played from 1998-2001, earning a degree in general studies administration in 2002.
