A group of six Polynesians will be playing in NFL Europa during the 2007 season. The list includes 3 Samoans (Kili Lefotu, Tanuvasa Moe, Lauvale Sape), 2 Hawaiians (Kurt Kahui & Donovan Raiola), and 1 Tongan (Steve Fifita). There are also four Hawaii High School graduates (Kurt Kahui, Tanuvasa Moe, Donovan Raiola, Lauvale Sape). Former Washington Redskins Linebacker Kurt Gouveia will coach linebackers for the Berlin Thunder.
NFL Assignments
Kurt Kahui was assigned to the Amsterdam Admirals by the San Diego Chargers. Kahui was on the Chargers practice squad in the 2006 season. Kahui attended San Diego State and is a Maui HS graduate (Kahului, HI).
Kili Lefotu has been assigned by the Washington Redskins to play for the Cologne Centurions. Lefotu spent the 2006 season on the Redskins practice squad. Lefotu was a 7th round draft pick by the Redskins out of the University of Arizona.
NFL Allocation Draft
The Frankfurt Galaxy selected Steve Fifita in the fourth round from the Miami Dolphins. Fifita signed as a free agent in 2006 with the Dolphins out of the University of Utah.
NFL Europa Free Agent Draft Picks
Tanuvasa Moe a University of Hawai'i graduate was selected in the fifth round by the Amsterdam Admirals. Moe (St Louis HS, Honolulu, HI) will be used as a long snapper and a linebacker.
Lauvale Sape was selected in the second round by Berlin. Sape was released by the Buffalo Bills prior to the 2006 season after playing for the Bills in 2005 and 2003 after attending Utah and Leilehua HS (Wahiawa, HI).
Donovan Raiola was selected in the eight round by the Amsterdam Admirals. The younger brother of Detroit Lions Center Dominic Raiola. Raiola signed with the St. Louis Rams out of Wisconsin and St Louis HS (Honolulu, HI) and was cut prior to the 2006 football season.
