Fred Koloto SF Chronicle Peninsula Region Player of the Year

Palo Alto Lineman Fred Koloto was selected San Francisco Chronicle 2006 Peninsula Region Player of the Year. He's just under 6-4 and weighs 280 pounds, but what sets the lineman apart is his combination of quickness and strength. "We've had kids that big," Palo Alto coach Earl Hansen said, "but for a kid that size, we've never had one so athletic." The three-year letterman, with college offers to San Jose State, San Diego State, Fresno State and Washington, also led Palo Alto to a unique destination.

The Vikings (12-2) shocked most by first winning the Central Coast Section Open Division, which helped them qualify them for the CIF State D-II Bowl championship. Though Palo Alto lost, it finished ranked 29th in the state overall -- deserves much of the credit. "Even if he wasn't so talented, he'd be a super kid to have in the program," Hansen said. "We've had the best of both."

Koloto
was also selected 1st Team Offensive Line All Metro Football 2006 by the SF Chronicle. San Jose State Coach Dick Tomey also has a verbal commitment from Fred Koloto to play for the Spartans next fall.
